Genesis - Wendy & Bonnie. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. Wendy and Bonnie Flower were American singing sisters, who recorded the album Genesis in 1969 for Skye Records, which was produced by Gary McFarland. At the time, McFarland was part owner of the Skye label, along with Latin percussionist Cal Tjader who was Wendy and Bonnie's godfather and jazz guitarist Gábor Szabó. Wendy and Bonnie grew up in Millbrae, California, in the San Francisco Bay suburbs. Their parents, Art and Jeane Flower, were professional musicians. In 1967, Wendy played and recorded. Wendy & Bonnie's only album is a nice, if not truly necessary, relic of the late 1960s. It's the sort of unconventional yet accessible project that might have had trouble finding its way into release in any other era, but managed to at least get issued, even if it was largely undiscovered until cult listeners unearthed it decades later. This album is a real gem. On a personal note, it’s had a firm grip on me since I heard a bootleg some twenty years ago. The combination of the girls’ own consistent songwriting, the blend of their young voices and the tasty playing by top session people - incl. Larry Carlton on guitar - makes Genesis a true classic.
An album of dreams. These girls were so young when they made a time were there was no digital world. No tv shows dedicated to exploit and squeeze 'talent.. And in an era where now fame has become the highest achievable thing.
Here we have two girls who just made an album, they felt beauty, they felt love, they felt innocence and expressed it. Art is expression of sincere feelings. This is that.
It reminds me of some scenes in a Wes Anderson movie somehow. Or Wes Anderson scenes remind me of some parts of this album. Since they both portray scenic painful beauty. Maybe a weird comparison, but that is what comes to mind right now. Some songs bring me back to silence..Their music makes you want to know them.
I love this album, and to me this is what human beauty is. 'By the sea' is where I would want to be..
Two sisters, tenderly aged 18 and 15, write and sing all tracks on this very typical period piece. Luckily the producer avoids the trap of over-orchestration and so comes up with a flowery and soothing bunch of songs, sometimes bordering on the sugary, but mostly rendering a peaceful and harmonic atmosphere. The voices of the sisters blend beautifully, the backing is unobtrusive but qualified. Naturally this drips innocence all over, but infrequently rises to the occasion and reaches real, though subdued, expressiveness as on Five o'clock in the morning and Endless pathway.
Strange enough, the last four tracks on side B seem to be the best ones and show more commitment than those on side A. The sharp, cutting acid-guitar on The winter is cold is a welcome bonus. These four cuts are above average and should be heard by anyone with interest in female vocals in lighly psychedelic settings.
The cover shot of the pair shows the very personalisation of naivete.
