The Cowsills were a singing group from Newport, Rhode Island specializing in what would later be defined as bubblegum pop. The band was formed in the spring of 1965 by four brothers - Barry, Bill, Bob, and John Cowsill. After their initial success, the brothers were later joined by their siblings, Susan and Paul and their mother, Barbara. Rounding out the group was remaining brother Richard, who did not sing with the group, but was assigned as road manager and advisor. The Cowsills is the eponymous debut album by American pop group and family, the Cowsills. The first single from the album was The Rain, The Park & Other Things, which reaching No. 2 on the Billboard pop chart. Similar in style to pop groups The Mamas & the Papas, Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, The Monkees, AM Pop and sunshine pop-style pop music of the time, the Cowsills produced a family-friendly music produced by an actual family. Album 1988 14 Songs. Poor Baby. The Billy Cowsill Benefit Concert Featuring the Cowsills. The Cocaine Drain 6. The Cowsills In Concert. Captain Sad and His Ship of Fools. Beneath the wholesome family image, the Cowsills were a real band. They wrote most of their own songs, played their own instruments, and sang with assured and beautiful voices. Poor Baby sounds like a lost Beach Boys single and We Can Fly is a great song that should have been a big hit. The only complaint one might have is that some of the production seems a little unimaginative. This song is by The Cowsills and appears on the album Best of Cowsills 1994. Arranged by Tony Romeo and produced by Wes Farrell. After In Need Of A Friend s modest performance on the Hot-100, the Cowsills turned to Wes Farrell to produce their next 45, Indian Lake. It reached 10, while the follow-up, Poor Baby made it to 44. Both songs were written by Tony Romeo, who also wrote the Partridges Familys I Think I Love You and Lou Christies Im Gonna Make You Mine. The Cowsills are still performing today, although we have sadly lost three of their members, Bill, Barry and Mom, Barbara. Poor Baby:The Cowsills. 44 on BB Hot 100 on MGM Records in 1968. INTRO: E . Label: CM ANGEL A91. A real-life family band and the inspiration for The Partridge Family TV show, the Cowsills captured the sunny sound of flower power in the late 1960s. With hits such as The Rain, the Park and Other Things and Hair, they made a handful of harmony-laden contributions to pop music before disbanding in 1971. I hadn't remembered Poor Baby, In Need of a Friend and II X II from those days, but I am now a new fan of those songs, as well What a wonderful album The Cowsill family harmonies are delightfully perfect. The vocal arrangements, which according to the liner notes, were all done by the Cowsills themselves are incredibly good
