Five Minutes More: A Tribute. ASV, Living Era. Gordon Lee Tex Beneke February 12, 1914 May 30, 2000 was an American saxophonist, singer, and bandleader. His career is a history of associations with bandleader Glenn Miller and former musicians and singers who worked with Miller. His band is also associated with the careers of Eydie Gormé, Henry Mancini and Ronnie Deauville. Beneke also solos on the recording the Glenn Miller Orchestra made of their popular song In The Mood and sings on another popular Glenn Miller recording, Chattanooga. Tex remained with Miller until the trombonist disbanded the unit when he entered the armed forces in 1942. Beneke was never a member of Millers final Army Air Force Band which was based in England prior to the bandleaders mysterious death when his aircraft disappeared over the English Channel while on a flight to France in 1944. Instead, the saxophonist toured in the USA with The Modernaires, the vocal group formerly associated with the Miller band. After breaking with the Miller camp, Beneke led his own bands into the 1990s always working in some variation of the Miller sound. Tex Beneke Orchestra, Tex Beneke Ork.
