Going Down South captures three bluesmen who all hailed from the hill country of Northern Mississippi guitarists Ranie Burnette and R. Burnside and the harmonica of Johnny Woods. They occasionally accompany each other, but mainly play solo in locations as diverse as New Orleans, the Netherlands, and Burnside's house. Fifteen songs are included, with each player spotlighted on five apiece. These are timeless, raw, stark, and mainly acoustic blues highlighted by the slide guitar of Burnette and Burnside.
