Compact Disc CD Digital Album. Michael Jonathan Mick Turner born 1960 is an Australian musician and artist. He is the founding mainstay guitarist for Dirty Three and has had art exhibitions around Australia and internationally. Previously he was a member of the Moodists 198384 and Venom P. He has released four solo studio albums, Tren Phantasma 1997, Marlan Rosa 1999, Moth 2003 and Don't tell the Driver 2013. Moth is a single piece divided into 19 sections. Turner plays all the instruments with the exception of piano - courtesy of Michael Krassner - and organ on one cut. That said, besides guitars and textures, there aren't that many more instruments. There are wispy layers of guitars backing crystalline minimal flourishes of one or two in the forefront, which come across as gorgeously melodic, almost songlike lines, though in truth they are phrases that surround a ghost melody, one that isn't actually there. Album station. Moth 1. Guitarist Mick Turner, a beanstalky James Dean who appeared to be petting his hollow-bodied Gretsch, conveyed the band's blue cool. Over several albums Dirty Three perfected their style, which was to lilt a bit, only to erupt into violent über-crescendos that called to mind an Itzhak Perlman score for Spielberg's holocaust vigilante epic Schindler's Pissed. If Moth's nineteen untitled parts comprise a sequel to Marlan Rosa, that album's cresting ship is marooned somewhere, and its captain has carved himself out a domicile barking dogs on Part 1 help to ground the album.
