Sitting somewhere between Thrash and Punk this female led combo manage to combine experimental approaches with surprisingly catchy assassination attempts on the inner ear. Noisy as you might imagine but well-controlled, musically proficient and, while the vocalist has a predictably scratchy voice, she also has surprising power which isn't blown away by the audio assault. Coming from the extreme end of Jazz - that area folk like JOHN ZORN have terror-formed into a new and frightening world, MELT-BANANA have managed to make a name for themselves and it's no great surprise - you grow to admire them the way you'd admire the shark that ate your Auntie - a powerful force, a result not so much of natural selection as of some mal-divine design. The perfect visual accompaniment to this would be some 'legal' snuff movie - footage of Death Squads straffing villages full of innocents, pumping thousands of rounds of hot lead at random until even the air seems full of holes, and not one living thing is left to draw breath, not even a fly.
But this is not brute force aimed randomly, but rather a precision artistry carried out with almost unbelievable accuracy. To execute such music is like trying to thread a needle in a tornado. Admire them? Yes, you bet - it's energetic, brash and brutal, and clever as hell. Listen to them? After a week's sleep, when not one drop of tiredness is left in this aging body. Dance to them? At the risk of cardiac failure.

Oh, and there's an uncredited track at the end which is worth a fortune on it's own, as if whatever Loa possessing the vocalist had used all it's remaining energy up at the very end.
