Sounds of Synanon is the debut album by jazz guitarist Joe Pass. The album was recorded with patients at the Synanon Drug Center where Pass was being treated for addiction to heroin. Jazz critic Leonard Feather reviewed the album for the July 5, 1962 issue of DownBeat magazine and said, This album does more than merely present a group of good musicians, it unveils a star. In Joe Pass, Synanon and Pacific Jazz have discovered a major jazz talent. Joe Pass guitar. Dave Allen trumpet. It was recorded while Pass was still a patient at the Synanon Drug Center in California. Made with fellow patients, Pass proved to be a star. It is interesting to note that Pass played an electric solid-body rock guitar, as he did not even own a guitar at this time. His legendary chops are especially evident on Projections and Hang Tough, featuring some of his cleanest playing ever recorded. His accompanists prove to be adequate, but hardly approach the genius of Pass. A landmark recording in the history of jazz guitar. Joe Pass - Sounds Of Synanon 1962. To favorites 3 Download album.
