A Short Introduction to the House Sounds of Terre Thaemlitz is just that: Two tracks of Thaemlitz's house work pressed onto fresh vinyl via the Skylax label. There are plenty of tracks that might have served as a better introduction to the producer's myriad interests. Nevertheless, a miss for Thaemlitz is a gem for others, and the track rolls and winds for the duration, ending in field recordings from what sounds like a march on Washington from AIDS activists. The B, B2B is another animal entirely. Springing to life with a dark bassline and a strong beat, continually modulated by a heavy phaser, the track rushes along while new elements are incorporated. Terre is a genius period. Current track: SKYLAX 115 - Sprinkles Vs K - B2BSKYLAX 115 - Sprinkles Vs K - B2B. There was a problem playing this track. Terre Thaemlitz. DJ Sprinkles. Background information. Also known as. Terre Thaemlitz's Soil and Tranquilizer releases in the early and mid-1990s served to introduce a political form of ambient music, continued in later releases such as Couture Cosmetique and Means from an End, which aim to recast the usually passive artist-listener-environment equation. Thaemlitz's colleagues in the political ambient music front include the sound activist group Ultra-red. Kami-Sakunobe House Explosion: Route 1 EP, Comatonse Recordings, 2006, . There was a time when Terre Thaemlitz couldnt imagine making her music available online. The reasons-outlined in great detail on the producers own Comatonse Recordings site-were both philosophical and political, but they also stemmed from a string of bad experiences, where songs were sold without her permission. The harsh opening to this album was a deliberate fuck you to the ambient bullshit of the day. It was basically copying the ambient sounds heard in my Spanish Harlem apartment at the time-from non-stop bodega music to the sub-bass rumble of trucks a block away. Meet Terre Thaemlitz, the transgender clubland renegade who wants to take house music back to its near-forgotten queer roots. Go to any big house night today and theres a fair chance that youll come away with the image of muscle lads in plunging vest tops, students selfie-ing in front of the speakers, and a million Disclosure remixes imprinted on your hangover. As the genre continues to commodify itself faster than you can say Duke Dumont, these events can often feel tediously hetero and geezered out, a million miles away from house musics roots in queer club culture, when clubs were spac. DJ Sprinkles vs. K-S.H.E - A Short Introduction to the House Sounds of Terre Thaemlitz 3.5/5 (Resident Advisor)"A Short Introduction to the House Sounds of Terre Thaemlitz is just that: Two tracks of Thaemlitz's house work pressed onto fresh vinyl via the Skylax label. From 2005 and 2006 respectively, both tracks are taken from Thaemlitz's own Comatose label. Fitting in perfectly with the current popularity of Old School cum New School New York house, it's a timely reminder that Thaemlitz has been a master of this game for some time. "Hush Now" is a groovy number with fun percussion and a vocal repeating the title, which somewhat belies its political origins. Considering Thaemlitz's extensive back catalogue, it's curious as to why Skylax decided to choose this one in particular. There are plenty of tracks that might have served as a better introduction to the producer's myriad interests. Nevertheless, a miss for Thaemlitz is a gem for others, and the track rolls and winds for the duration, ending in field recordings from what sounds like a march on Washington from AIDS activists. The B, "B2B" is another animal entirely. Springing to life with a dark bassline and a strong beat, continually modulated by a heavy phaser, the track rushes along while new elements are incorporated. "Brother to brother" repeats and warm pads rise up. As the track breaks for the second time, a funky walking bassline comes into play and piano accompanies. House indeed." Bad Ass house production. Timeless classic. A record you keep your whole life.
Tebei
My copy of this record has a lot of cracking in the first 40 seconds of A side, cracks start even before the music, is anyone having the same issue?
Minnai
The crackle has groove. No joke. It's locked in time. Definitely intensional - super nice.
Fani
Since it contains samples from Vil-N-X (1992) I guess it's comes from a bad condition of that record.
Umsida
Ditto here, not sure if meant to be there or not.
Uanabimo
I don't have the record but I imagine it's intentional, given this preview has a lotta crackling: https://soundcloud.com/hardrockstriker/dj-sprinkles-hushnow-skylax-115
