The Concerto for Group and Orchestra is a concerto composed by Jon Lord, with lyrics written by Ian Gillan. It was first performed by Deep Purple and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Malcolm Arnold on 24 September 1969 and released on vinyl in December 1969. After the score was lost in 1970, it was performed again in 1999 with a recreated score. Concerto for Group and Orchestra wasis a breakthrough album on many levels. Though The Moody Blues were first associated with the combination of symphony orchestras and a guitar group, they were not remotely of the same genre as Deep Purple and the people listening to Ritchie Blackmore were not impressed with the softness of The Moodys' poetic approach to what was, nonetheless, categorized as rock & roll, purely for lack of the better term that was. This set was recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall in London on September 24th, 1969 and was divided into three movements: 1st Movement: Allegretto. 2nd Movement: Allegro with lyrics by lead singer Ian Gillan.
