This is an early recording of David Bowie and The Feathers live in 1968, performing demos for the Space Oddity album. It includes two previously unreleased tracks.

Bowie's Beckenham Oddity is an annual fundraiser, supported by David when he provided signed items for auction at the event. This year the Bowie Archive has donated another item signed by him, more details of which will follow before the festival in August. Money raised goes to the Bandstand Restoration & Plaque Fund. A bandstand where David Bowie played soon after the release of his first hit single Space Oddity has been protected with a Grade II listing. The singer performed from the stand to a small audience in Croydon Road Recreation Ground on 16 August 1969. The star, who died in 2016, is thought to have penned the lyrics to Life On Mars from its steps in London. The 1905 bandstand is in Beckenham, where Bowie lived with Mary Finnigan, his landlady-turned-lover. Soon after Space Oddity, Bowie and his frien. When David Bowie's second album appeared in late 1969, he was riding high. His first ever hit single, the super-topical Space Oddity, had scored on the back of the moon landing that summer, and so distinctive an air did it possess that, for a moment, its maker really did seem capable of soaring as high as Major Tom. Space Oddity aside, Bowie possessed very little in the way of commercial songs, and the ensuing album his second emerged as a dense, even rambling, excursion through the folky strains that were the last glimmering of British p.
