Canned Heat is the 1967 debut album by Canned Heat. It was released shortly after their appearance at the Monterey Pop Festival, and is a blues cover album. Canned Heat was re-released on CD in 1999 by French label MAM Productions under the title Rollin' and Tumblin'. Canned Heat. Bob Hite lead vocals except Help Me . Alan Wilson rhythm and slide guitar, lead vocals on Help Me , harmonica. Henry Vestine lead guitar. Larry Taylor bass. Frank Cook drums. Additional Musician. Canned Heat Live in Concert 1979. 2019 Remastered. Ten songs for you. Remember Woodstock. Canned Heat Christmas Album. Originally released in Europe, this features a reconstituted Canned Heat lineup from 1988. Now this goes back to the 60's...and is by no means a representation of my life today. ;-)

The dressing room was so full of smoke [marijuana and hash] that you could cut it with a knife. The temperature was warm and getting hotter, the jokes were getting more off coloured, and headiness of the evening broke loose when Bob Hite, affectionately know as ‘The Bear’ turned, coughed and said, ‘Have you ever heard of the Boogie Philosophy of Life?’ almost singing the words. Of course I had to say, ‘No!’ but not before the other members of the band began laughing and pushing Bob saying, ‘Not now, we gotta’ show ta’ do.’ Ya, this was all happening before the concert had even started.

The performance rocked, it rolled and boogied its way through the evening and into the wee hours of the morning. In the Fillmore there were always these bowls of fresh fruit for the audience, but after the show Bob ended up with one of the bowls and was just eating one apple after the next. When I asked him to continue with the ‘Boogie Philosophy of Life’ he said, ‘You just saw it, it’s all about the music, everything is about the music, everything you do, touch, see or taste is done with a Boogie attitude.’ Then the room began to fill with smoke again.

Sadly Bob would die some ten years later, never to be forgotten, especially by his so-called friends who would raid his home, walking off with a priceless collection of records . No one had a larger collection then Bob, it would be wonderful to see it in tack today ... Folk, Country, Blues, Rock, early wax recordings, 45’s, you name it he had it.

But to the music ... Many bands are copied when they develop a signature sound, but not Canned Heat, and the reason for that is probably because there is no one who would have the courage to tackle the music they have laid down. For this group it was a philosophy, and a life style, which they lived to the fullest without reservation. This is really happy music that slaps a smile on your face, rolls and rolls all around the room, up and down your spine relentlessly. It’s like no music on earth, a combination of delta blues, rock n’ roll and a whole host of other genres all mixed together for a blend of hot like you’ve never experienced.

This greatest hits release is a fine place to begin and hopefully will spur you into discovering their body of work album by album. All of the music found here is first rate.

Once you drop this disc in your player don’t bother sitting down, you’ll be on your feet in five seconds ... so “DON’T FORGET TO BOOGIE.”

**Where’d they come up with the name ‘Canned Heat?’ The name of the group comes from an old blues song by Tommy Johnson, called ‘Canned Heat Blues’ about a guy so down on his luck that he turns to drinking Sterno [Canned Heat], to dull his pain.
